Ruger Sets School Record as Track & Field Shines at Section 9 Class C Championships

Rhinebeck track and field made the long trek to Warwick Valley High School on Friday (5/30) to compete in the Section 9 Class C championships. Class C this year consists of 18 different schools with a classification enrollment number of 399 or less.

Highlighting the day was Parker Ruger winning the 400m dash in 50.26 and hitting the State Championship at-large standard. His time also broke the school record set by Brandt Slayton in 2013.

The boys 4x800m relay (Quin Gideon, Ruger, Brady Fischer, Jason Gisby-Hanks) also earned a sectional championship with a time of 8:35.37, nearly 31 seconds ahead of second place. 

The quartet returned to place 3rd in the 4x400m relay in a season’s best of 3:33.64.

The final podium performance of the day was Jason Gisby-Hanks who placed 2nd as an individual in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.55.

Other scoring performances outside of the podium include:

  • Fiona Murray in the 100m hurdles (4th place – 17.02)
  • Augy Lamm in the 1600m run (5th place – 4:58.14)
  • The girls 4×100 (Sadie Shalam, Murray, Sophia Santoro, Maddy Santoro – 5th place – 54.20)

As a team, the boys placed 6th overall with 36 points, while the girls finished 12th with 6 points.

Track and field returns this Wednesday and Thursday (6/4 and 6/5) to compete in the Section 9 Class C State Qualifiers. Both meets begin at 3:30 P.M. with day 1 at Monroe-Woodbury and day 2 at Goshen.
