Rhinebeck track and field competed at the Race at the Oval Office invitational hosted by FDR this past Saturday, 5/3. Over twenty teams were present despite the threat of challenging weather conditions in the afternoon.
The morning portion of the meet kicked off with Freshman/Sophomore events only. Augy Lamm was the sole medalist of the morning, placing 8th in the 1600m run with a large PR of 5:05.94.
Rhinebeck was busy in the afternoon session of the meet when varsity events officially began. Fiona Murray opened the afternoon with a 5th place overall finish in the 100m hurdles, running a time of 17.93. Competition was soon interrupted by severe thunderstorms with teams being required to shelter on their buses. After an hour and a half delay, competition resumed with Parker Ruger placing 3rd overall in the 400m dash with a PR of 50.84. Jason Gisby-Hanks also lowered his PR in the 800m run, placing 5th overall in a time of 2:02.68.
Closing the meet were the relays with the girls 4×100 (Sadie Shalam, Murray, Sophia Santoro, Maddy Santoro) medaling with an 8th place finish in 56.19. The boys 4×400 (Quin Gideon, Gisby-Hanks, Brady Fischer, Ruger) ran to a 4th place finish in 3:34.30, losing out only to larger schools of Pine Bush, FDR, and Valley Central.
