The Varsity Baseball team opened strong but couldn’t keep pace as Rondout Valley pulled away for a 13–1 win on Friday, May 1st.
Rhinebeck struck first in the opening inning when Sawyer Giles drove in a run, but defensive miscues and timely hitting allowed Rondout Valley to take control by the second and extend their lead through the middle innings.
Despite the lopsided score, Rhinebeck showed energy on the basepaths with both John Haight and Oscar Clark swiping multiple bags. Haight led the Hawks with two hits and Giles accounted for Rhinebeck’s lone RBI.
On the mound, Clark battled through nearly five innings, striking out five. However, errors behind him proved costly, with all 10 runs he allowed going unearned.
Rhinebeck will look to bounce back at home Monday when they host Highland in a 4:15 PM game.
