Varsity Baseball Defeats Ellenville

The Varsity Baseball team delivered a thrilling comeback win on Thursday, May 7th, edging Ellenville 3-2 in a walk-off victory in eight innings.

With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Sawyer Giles came through with the game-winning single to drive in the decisive run and seal the dramatic finish for Rhinebeck.

The Hawks showed resilience after trailing 2-0 following an Ellenville error-induced rally in the sixth inning. Rhinebeck answered in the seventh when Troy Martin lined a clutch RBI single down the left field line to tie the game and force extra innings.

Giles also starred on the mound, earning the win after striking out 10 batters over six strong innings while allowing just two unearned runs. Martin added two scoreless innings in relief to help keep Ellenville off the board late. Rhinebeck’s pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts in the hard-fought victory.

At the plate, Giles led the Hawks with two hits, while Rhinebeck’s defense added a key double play.
