Varsity Boys Soccer Has Successful Weekend

The Rhinebeck Varsity Boys Soccer team continued its impressive season with two victories over the weekend, defeating Class AA Washingtonville 4–1 on Friday, October 9, before shutting out Onteora 2–0 on Saturday, October 10.

The Hawks delivered an outstanding performance against a strong Washingtonville squad, building a 3–1 halftime lead before adding another goal in the second half. John Haight led the offensive attack with two goals, while Griffin Stewart and Calvin Steele each found the back of the net. Nery Lopez contributed two assists and provided solid defensive play. Rhinebeck controlled much of the action, completing 65% of its passes and limiting Washingtonville to just one goal.

Building on Friday’s success, the Hawks returned to action on Saturday in the Andy Bennett Tournament, where they defeated Onteora 2–0 in an important divisional matchup. Haight continued his impressive weekend, scoring both goals for Rhinebeck, with Lopez contributing an assist.

The Hawks’ defense was equally impressive, shutting out the Eagles and limiting their scoring opportunities. Despite possession being evenly split between the two teams, Rhinebeck capitalized on its chances and completed 64% of its passes to secure the victory.

With four goals over the two games, Haight helped lead the Hawks to a successful weekend. Rhinebeck looks to extend its winning streak when it travels to Rondout Valley on Thursday, October 15, for its next matchup.
