Varsity Boys Soccer earned a 4-0 road victory over Dover on Monday, September 14.
Sophomore John Haight got the Hawks off to a fast start, scoring two goals, both assisted by Calvin Steele. Before the end of the first half, Haight sent a cross into the box that was stopped by a Dover player’s hand, resulting in a penalty kick. Zeneldine Daoud calmly converted, placing the shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.
The Hawks entered halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Rhinebeck continued its strong play after the break. Early in the second half, Ruben Gelb delivered a well-placed ball to Griffin Stewart inside the box. Stewart finished the play with a volley into the back of the net, extending the Hawks’ lead to 4-0.
From there, Rhinebeck continued to work together defensively, moving as a unit and applying pressure across the field. The Hawks also displayed excellent ball movement and teamwork throughout the match. Goalkeeper Cody Martin recorded three quality saves to help preserve the shutout.
With the victory in the books, Rhinebeck will quickly turn its attention to its next match, as the Hawks travel to Webutuck tomorrow.
