Varsity Boys Soccer Wins Section Championship

The Varsity Boys Soccer team captured their second straight Section IX Class C Championship title on Monday, November 3rd. The Hawks combined skill, discipline, and heart to navigate two intense matches—first earning a commanding 3-1 win over the Webutuck Wildcats in the semifinals before edging out the John S. Burke Eagles 1-0 in a thrilling championship final.

The Hawks opened the Sectional tournament last week at Bard College, where they faced the Webutuck Wildcats. From the opening whistle, the team set the tone with strong possession play and disciplined ball movement. Their control of the tempo paid off with timely goals that kept Webutuck on the back foot throughout the match. The Hawks powered their way to a 3-1 victory, earning their spot in the Sectional Finals.

The championship match at Goshen High School was a showcase of determination and teamwork as the Hawks battled the John S. Burke Eagles for the title. The Hawks’ defense was in top form as they stood strong through 80 minutes of play to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard. Rhinebeck was able to breakthrough in the 55th minute when junior captain Calvin Steele demonstrated remarkable touch and composure, calmly finishing the decisive goal that would secure the championship.

From start to finish, the boys exemplified unity, grit, and focus—never wavering even in the most challenging moments.
