Eleanor Firestone and Sawyer Giles Recognized By MHAL

Eleanor Firestone and Sawyer Giles were recognized for their athletic and academic success on Thursday, May 28th by the Mid-Hudson Athletic League.

Eleanor Firestone has been a dedicated multi-sport athlete throughout her time at Rhinebeck High School, competing in Varsity Soccer for four years, Varsity Track & Field for two years, and Varsity Unified Basketball for two years. A respected leader on and off the field, Ellie also served as captain of the Varsity Soccer team.

Beyond athletics, she has distinguished herself as an exceptional student leader and active member of the school community. She is a Culture Connect Student Ambassador and a member of the National Honor Society, where she serves as treasurer. Ellie also serves as Vice President of the Rotary Interact Club.

Ellie’s commitment to academics has been equally impressive. She has earned recognition as an MHAL All-Academic Team member eight times and has also been honored eight times as a NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete for maintaining an average grade above 90 while participating on a varsity athletic team.

This fall, she plans to attend Boston College to study International Relations.

Sawyer Giles has been a member of the Varsity Baseball team for four years and the Varsity Golf team for one year. A respected leader among his teammates, Sawyer also served as captain of the varsity baseball team.

In addition to his athletic success, he has made a significant impact throughout the school community. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Rotary Interact Club, and Art Club. Sawyer’s leadership is further reflected in his service as President of both the Rotary Interact Club and the Art Club.

His commitment to excellence extends well beyond the classroom and playing field, earning him MHAL All-Academic Team honors five times and recognition as a NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete five times for maintaining an average grade above 90 while competing on a varsity team.

During his time at Rhinebeck, Sawyer was awarded the RYLA Leadership Scholarship and earned a second-place finish in the county-wide art show, showcasing both his leadership and creativity.

This fall, he plans to attend the University of Maryland to study Mechanical Engineering.
